    We are seeking a Senior Linux Systems Engineer for the FDA Scientific Computing program in North Bethesda, MD.  This will be supporting the FDA and their scientists in the Scientific Computing division which includes but is not limited to; technical and research aspects (e.g., hardware, software, desktop support, infrastructure, virtualization all in a laboratory environment) supporting a variety of FDA Centers.

    The Senior Linux Systems Engineer will work in conjunction with the rest of the Engineering team in support of the overall FDA program, with specifics emphasis on the HPC implementation.  
     
    The duties will include, but not be limited to:
    • Exploring new technologies to improve efficiency and maximize performance
    • Experience working within a HPC environment, using Puppet for configuration and Set-up.
    • Establishing operations policies and procedures for production Installing, configuring, and maintaining production systems and applications
    • Building and tools, scripts, and operating procedures for continuous efficiency improvement
    • Fault detection, isolation, resolution, and root cause analysis
    • Deploying new releases and patches to test and production environments
    • Evaluating commercial and open-source tools to improve efficiency

    Required Qualifications:
    • BS degree in a technical discipline (Computer Science or Computer Engineering is preferred).
    • Minimum 5 years related IT Systems Administration experience.

    • Expert knowledge of Linux systems administration
    • MySQL administration; performance tuning experience a plus
    • Knowledge of Active Directory based LDAP authentication

    We are seeking a Senior High-Performance Computing (HPC) Engineer for our FDA Scientific program.  The program supports the FDA and their scientists in Scientific Computing which includes but is not limited to technical and research aspects (e.g., hardware, software, laboratory environment) supporting the Center for Food Safety and Nutrition (CFSAN). Responsibilities include leading and directing the employees supporting the HPC Engineering directives, ensuring that work is delivered with quality and is on time with proper documentation. Additional tasking maybe required as directed by the HPC Program Technical Lead.
     
    CFSAN Scientific Computing provides support to the scientific computing community to numerous FDA centers.  The support extends from workstation support to standing up an HPC within the FDA Scientific Data Center. 
     
    The Sr. HPC Engineer duties will include, but not be limited to:
    • Work with the CFSAN HPC Technical lead and team to implement significant HPC architecture changes to support the diverse scientific disciplines within FDA. 
    • Support data center and operation logistics for assigned areas
    • Active participant in HPC community (either DoD, DHS or DoE in particular) and professional societies

    Requirements:
    • 7 years of work experience active testing of software, at least 3 of those years testing Web applications
    • 1 year work experience in testing on Agile software testing projects
    • 3 years experience in writing test management documentation (test plans, defect management reports)
    • 5 years experience writing test cases/scripts and hands on software testing
    • Experience with Rational Team Concert and Rational Quality Manager
    • Mobile testing experience
    • 1 year experience of work experience testing Social media of interfaces and working with user-generated content such as blogs (posting, establishing hyperlinks and content, understanding the popularity algorithm) and use of Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

    Role and Responsibilities:
    • Perform application development and support
    • Understand and apply development design patterns. 
    • Understand and apply design disciplines including Object-Oriented Design and Analysis ad Domain-Driven Design
    • Understand and leverage common architectural styles and patterns (Layered, Clean, CRUD, CQRS, etc)
    • Understand and apply quality techniques and practices (automated unit testing, Test Driven Design/Development, java performance analysis, continuous integration)
    • Problem and modification identification, classification, and prioritization
    • Detailed analysis of the modification to determine impact, feasibility, and alternatives
    • Design modification and execution of solution
    • Testing of the application as required when changes are made to the, application, its infrastructure or interfacing systems
    • Provide the modification as part of a release package for installation in the operational environment.
    • Data quality and data management
    • Creation and maintenance of system documentation and artifacts
    • Disaster recovery testing
    • Provide support of critical production issues
    • Work well on small, high-performing teams
       
     Required:
    • Bachelor's Degree in an associated discipline and a minimum of 4 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. 
    • Java 7 and 8, Hibernate, Maven, Oracle, REST Services, Spring
     Highly Desirable:
    • Vaadin, Spring Boot, Docker, Amazon Web Services, JOOQ experience in a continuous integration environment.
    • Scripting languages and experience (Ruby, Python, etc)
