Ron and I are pleased to announce that ZapThink has been acquired by Dovèl Technologies, where it will become a wholly owned subsidiary. I wanted to let you, our loyal ZapFlash readers, know about this news right away. We hope to combine the best of ZapThink and Dovèl, and we wanted to keep you in the loop.
Introducing Dovèl Technologies
Dovèl Technologies provides high-end software and application development for clients across the US federal government including defense, public heath, and transportation. Dovèl’s technologists have been instrumental in the design and implementation of some of the most mission critical and innovative systems in government today including the Department of Defense Travel System, DoD OneStop, DoD Business Transformation Agency engineering support including development of a SOA Strategy Implementation approach, Food and Drug Administration Emergency Operation and MARCS Recall Systems, NOAA Coral Ship Reporting System, Census Data Management Platform, Department of Education Federal Student Aid, and Federal Aviation Administration System Wide Information Management System.
As part of Dovèl’s strategic plan to expand their scope, capabilities, and thought leadership in Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Cloud Computing, and related technologies, Dovèl is adding ZapThink to their business portfolio, bringing tremendous new opportunities to expand their offerings. The ZapThink team will continue delivering training and certification, and market analysis to provide perspective on the latest technologies related to SOA and the Cloud.
In fact, ZapThink will continue to offer the LZA course to federal and commercial customers, and we will continue produce ZapFlash newsletters and cutting edge advisory, content, and guidance. I will continue as President of the ZapThink subsidiary of Dovèl Technologies. Ronald Schmelzer will help manage the transition of existing customers and content. ZapThink will soon offer an enhanced training schedule as well as additional services and offerings that leverage and augment the capabilities of Dovèl Technologies.
ZapThink’s Newest Senior Analysts
Perhaps the most exciting part of this transition is the addition of new people to the ZapThink team. Even though Ron will be moving on, we’re adding to our cadre of Senior Analysts. The following three gentlemen will be regular contributors to the ZapFlash newsletter, as well as speakers at conferences and on Podcasts and other presentations. In the next few months, we will be adding more Analysts: some new and some from the cadre of highly qualified existing technical staff. Perhaps you would be interested in joining the team as well!

He is a thought leader in providing the best solutions in IT strategy and in developing and utilizing SOA adoption enterprise-scale programs and SOA roadmaps. His current engagement is with the US Federal Aviation Administration in architecting and building the SWIM SOA infrastructure for NextGen initiative within FAA. Prior to this, he was a Lead Architect at NAVTEQ, a NOKIA company, for a Location Based Content Management platform. His main area of focus has been IT consulting providing world class solutions to both commercial and federal government clients.
What Will Change…And What Will Remain the Same
Our popular Licensed ZapThink Architect SOA & Cloud Bootcamp will continue, and I will continue to run them.. We’ll continue to update the course regularly to reflect the latest trends in SOA and Cloud Computing and we will also use some of the lessons learned by Dovèl to make sure that the classes are based on scalable, world-class solutions. We’ll also be offering bimonthly courses in Dovèl’s McLean, Virginia offices. In addition, over the next few months, look for additional courses and additional master instructors, possibly including some of our new Senior Analysts.
Our thought leadership, in the form of our ZapFlash newsletter and speaking engagements and other channels, will expand as we add new contributors. And now that we have an extended team of consultants as part of the larger Dovèl family, ZapThink can deliver more than architecture advisory; we can offer full lifecycle software as well as Cloud strategy, planning and development.
The ZapThink Take
Last but not least, we’re hiring! ZapThink as well as Dovèl’s broader business have positions for Cloud professionals, architects, developers, technical trainers, and more. And as you might expect, we’re in the process of updating our Web site. Check back over the next few months to see what we come up with. This is an exciting time at ZapThink, and we’d like to share the excitement with you!
